Co-organized by the DMA, the major exhibition debuts in Paris this fall and arrives in Dallas in spring 2022.
Some very culturally significant bling is bound for the Dallas Museum of Art in 2022 when “Cartier and Islamic Art: In Search of Modernity” opens next May.
The exhibition, in partnership with Maison Cartier, examines how founder Louis Cartier and the designers of the fabled French jewelry house were inspired by and adopted forms from Islamic art, architecture and design (not to mention materials from places such as India and Iran) to fashion its own modern design style.
The show will contain more than 400 objects from Cartier, Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the Department of Islamic Arts at the Louvre Museum and the Keir Collection of Islamic Art on loan to the Dallas Museum of Art, among other loans.
The major exhibition, announced two weeks ago, will open in Paris this fall before heading to Dallas next spring for its only U.S. venue.
