GJC Elects Ashish Pethe As New Chairman

2021年01月04日

Following an e-voting election process conducted from 23rd to 27th December, 2020, the All India Gem & Jewellery Domestic Council (GJC), an association of Indian jewellery retailers, has appointed Ashish Pethe as its Chairman and Saiyam Mehra as its Vice Chairman for a period of two years.

Pethe has been associated with the gems and jewellery industry for the past 25 years. He was most recently the GJC’s Western region Zonal Chairman, a position that he will continue to handle. Pethe has been instrumental in managing many important issues like hallmarking, and has spearheaded the GJC National Jewellery Awards in 2020. After completing electrical engineering from VJTI and an MBA in Marketing from Symbiosis, he joined his family firm Waman Hari Pethe Jewellers.

Commenting on his appointment, Pethe stated, “In sync with Government’s policies, my first effort will be to transform and energise jewellers across India to bring more synergies within the indigenous industry. We shall strive to unite the entire industry and work towards achieving GJC's set goal of One Industry One Voice.

“GJC will strive to inspire many more jewellers and their association to get more organised to be able to project a unified approach to policy changes. We also want to tackle current ongoing challenges related to Hallmarking, Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA), and other issues such as the banking sector's hesitancy to provide loans to the gem and jewellery sector.”

Saiyam Mehra added, “There is a need for the industry to become more organised and compliant. GJC will continue to create better and newer platforms for the industry.”
